![]() A man with a multitude of roles within Social Misfit Entertainment is the always humble and hardworking Sir Prestige. Despite his many important facets he prefers to be seen as, "a multi-skilled social misfit who does his best to keep his musical family at the forefront". Sir Prestige discovered hip-hop during the break-dancing era of the early 1980's and has remained truly true to this musical art-form since first hearing it during his pre-teenage years on the streets of Nairobi, Kenya where he was raised. When his family immigrated to London he became fully exposed to the hip-hop culture and he knew then that this was something he wanted to actively participate in rather than just be an avid listener. Initially he commenced as a DJ, mainly playing at the local youth club's monthly disco as well as friends birthday parties, and this later developed into playing hip-hop for various sound-systems. His interest into musical production was a natural progression and it was here that he found his forte. About ten years later having paid dues and satisfied his mum's requirement, that he finish his education first, he decided to seriously pursue his music production aspirations. The first step was to officially form Social Misfit Entertainment, a production company he had long planned for that incorporated a label, Social Misfit Recordings. Its debut release was in 1998, "I Know That - EP" alongside former collaborating rhyme partner Chris Smoove, firmly set off the establishment to a good start. The well-produced multi-single EP also benefited from Sir Prestige's other talent and interest, artist development and management. The Chris Smoove and Prestige project made some notable achievements including initiating a distribution deal for Social Misfit Recordings through a certain major distributor, attaining sales that gave it a urban-chart placement, attracting much national media (radio and press) interest and doing shows as far afield as his homeland in East Africa. His next project was Da-Essence and he is proud that he was able to capitalise plus exceed upon his previous achievements and attract the young foursome widespread interest in what was only supposed to have been a demo offering. When he set-up Social Misfit Entertainment Sir Prestige's vision was to have a tight roster of locally based artists with universal appeal who would develope together as individual artists as well as work together collectively as a super-group, thus cross collatorising marketing and promotional efforts. This thought transpired to become The Social Misfits and within a short period of formation they began making a name for themselves as a crew to watch out for. His current and most ambitious project is the much talked about and much anticipated Social Misfits collaboration album, which he produced in entirety. The ambitious double CD project, aptly entitled "Sir Prestige presents… The Social Misfits: The Society Documented [Programme One and Two" sees him working alongside his Social Misfit cohorts as well as other close associates he particular wanted to work with including Estelle, Reveal, Mr Rippa, Insane MacBeth, Saigon (from Tanzania's), NBI Allstars (a league of Nairobi's finest emcees), Ffyonna (a sensational singing diva from Kenya) and a host of other domestic and international names. In addition the many ongoing Social Misfit projects the hardworking entrepreneurial producer and executive has contributed his talents on various other external projects though prefers to working alongside the Social Misfits. He is already working on the follow-up release, the long overdue Shiesty da Gypsy LP which he is equally as excited about. His busy schedule also includes production and executive direction for each individual Social Misfit artist. In addition to Shiesty he is also currently juggling new album projects for Stone Circle, I'Chelmee, Da-Essence, MelloTrauma and PQ. As a producer he is not only very talented, he is also very versatile. As an artist manager he is not only well knowledged he is also very committed and hardworking. As a managing director he is not only well qualified for the role but also very ambitious and intends to steer Social Misfit Entertainment into a universally influential establishment committed to consistently releasing genuine and innovative urban street music. ![]() |
