Da-Essence: (l/r)Ace, Ezeks aka Flama, and Mr Roach
Da-Essence

Da-Essence are four talented youngsters who strongly believe the core fundament of hip-hop is entertainment and social commentary.

Group members Ace, Roach, Juicy and Ezeks have been making a name for themselves for a while now and set things off to a good start in late-1999 with their debut effort, "Now Till Infinity - The Street Album". As suggested by the sub-title this widely acclaimed release was initially conceived as a demo to satisfy demand from their growing street fan base and firmly establish their name and profile within their South London locality. The response from this target audience was unexpectedly overwhelming and spread further beyond its intended sector market, even attracting them unsolicited interest beyond the homegrown hip-hop community. Demand soon outgrows available supply forcing Social Misfit Entertainment to take advantage and make it more widely available.

The awesome foursome have continued to enjoy considerable media attention. To date they have received favourable interviews and reviews in various publications including Hip Hop Connection (HHC), Touch, Blues and Soul, DJ, Muzik, Fatboss, The Voice, The Tip Sheet, Music Week, Phat (East African magazine), etc. Their music have also appeared on a few compilations, mixtapes and cover-mount CDs. Their recordings and interviews have also received airplay broadcast nationwide and their energetic performances have been seen by many at well known regular and industrial events including the Deisel U-Music Awards launch, In The City 2000 - Manchester, UK Hip-Hop Awards, Southwark Millennium Village, Camden Mix, etc. When it comes to live shows they are one of the few groups who inject energy, genuine enthusiasm and heartfelt humour that can be related to by whatever type of audience.

Their street-album lead title track "Now Till Infinity" has become a much sought and heavily distributed/exchanged MP3 on the Internet and they are very well favoured by the Internet generation worldwide. Evidence of this was further confirmed when they recently entered the top 10 charts at the infamous MP3.com site. They are also amongst the top most favoured and downloaded artists at Peoplesound.com, Europe's leading Internet music platform, and were the first artist's voted Peoplesound Artist of the Month.

The group spent much of 2000 recording their excellent contributions to the Social Misfits collaborative project alongside the entire Social Misfit stable. Their featured performances on the double-album such as 'Fatherless but Marvellous', 'For My Bredrins', 'Days of Today', etc., certainly illustrate their rapid development and lyrical maturity. Their humorous side is demonstrated on the equally entertaining and future club anthem 'Just Too Much/Too Little/Too Many/Too Far' , which mixes all the vital ingredients that have made Da-Essence a hit amongst their peers, the homegrown hip-hop community and their rapidly growing international fanbase. Those who enjoyed their initial efforts will definitely recognise their development and will agree that they have now certainly fulfilled the potential shown on their street album.

With Juicy now taking a back-sit post to pursue his spiritual side Ace, Roach and Ezeks have recently embarked upon putting work on their official first album. Their agenda for this forthcoming album is to enhance all the positive elements of the street album whilst illustrating their unquestionable development. Recently recorded tracks for this project like 'F**k What You Heard', 'Bitter Love', 'Reality' etc., are further prove Da-Essence just get better and better. Sir Prestige once again takes executive lead on production with additional beats and feature vocals sourced from not only the Social Misfits but from other reputable names who have agreed to be part of this project (full confirmation pending) including Apollo, DJ Skitz (Rodney P, etc.), Dark Joint (Malachi, etc.), Blak Twang, Estelle, etc. The boys promise an entertaining and surprising instalment, as suggested by Ace, "Expect Da-Essence it to exceed your expectations".

Naturally the excitement about their sophomore album has already commenced and we look forward to bringing you more news about this. In the meantime be sure to check-out some of their tunes at HangOutLounge.
