Shiesty da Gypsy
Shiesty da Gypsy

Without a doubt one of the hardest working Social Misfit artist is Shiesty da Gypsy. He is incredibly creative and suggestions that he writes an average of one track a day are not exagerated. After a long spell working on his style, paying dues and earning himself a strong credibility Shiesty recently completed the recording of his debut album, entitled "The Self Titled LP".

The Social Misfit Entertainment recording artist was born in London but has lived most of his life in New York and later relocated himself to Florida, USA before returning to his former and now current home-base, SE London. It was in New York that he became fully exposed to hip-hop and decided to take a full stance at becoming more involved as a recording artist. He crafted his skills alongside an underground group called the Black Gypsies and has worked or performed alongside several big US artists including Pete Rock, Boot Camp, Big Pun, etc. He returned to the UK on holiday in 1998 but was encouraged to extend his stay after hooking up with Social Misfit Entertainment who released his well received promotional debut entitled "The Self Titled EP" in 1999.

As one of the founding members of The Social Misfits Shiesty has already been putting in much work to build his profile in anticipation to his own album. His vocal contributions on the Social Misfits album have attracted him much deserved interest and he recently topped to MP3.com chart with an unauthorised version of "Some ill shit", a feat that we are all very proud about here at Social Misfit Entertainment. We anticipate the release of his long overdue album to further catapult his status.

The Self Titled LP is a remarkable collection of well thought out songs that should appeal to a universal audience. Shiesty's lyrical style is a cunningly woven concussion of word play, abstact grammer, twisted idealisms, hidden riddles, deep metaphors and double meanings that provoke mental thought and repeated listening.

Commenting about his album he proudly points out that, "The album is a reflection of me and everything I see and have experienced around me. Lyrically I did not just wanna come up with standard rhymes that just anyone can relate to immediately. Instead, I want people to pay attention to what I am saying and get them thinking about some of the issues I raise and the way that I say them. I did not want to just put together an album that you just listen to once or twice and then put away, I wanted an album that showed you something new and made you click on something new each time you listened to it. Though I believe I have catered for most people, the album is mainly for heads who enjoy the art of conceptual thought and appreciate lyricism as a means of self-expression and communicating social observation."

The album features an assorted range of production styles from the Social Misfit production team and restricted special guest appearances from The Black Gypsies, Paradise (57th Dynasty), Est'elle, Stranger, Tina Roberts, Juicy (Da-Essence), Natali, Overseas Edition and a host of other carefully selected Social Misfit cohorts.

More than 40 tracks were recorded for this album and only the shortlisted favourites have been included in the package. Tracks from his acclaimed 1999 promotional EP have been freshly revocalled, check out the new versions of the epic "I Am Everything/Everything Is Me", the dramatic "Early Ups", and the instantly catchy "If You With Me". Familiar titles such as the excellent "Black Stallion", "Live Your Life" and "Live & Times (of Ghetto Stars)" from the Social Misfits album have also been included as has new renditions of "One of Them Nights", and a brilliant continuation of "Tales of Two Cities:New York". New titles such as "True & Livin", "I See", "The Game", "Overseas Edition", "Thinking About You", etc., are all fine examples of his consistancy and gigantic talent proving that no one track on this release has been included as an album filler.

For Shiesty this is just the beginning of what he hopes will be a regular instalment of future classic albums. He has already commenced the conception of his sophomore follow-up and is currently writing with Mizola for their forthcoming Overseas Edition project.
