Formed on the notion that hip-hop originated as a form of entertainment and as a means of social commentary Da-Essence are three youngsters; Ace, Roach and Flamer (aka Zeks), who strive to continue emphasising upon these often increasingly disregarded core-values. Initially
formed in 1997, as a means to gain-free entry to their former high-school
talent-show competition, these young men have continued to build up a
considerably growing local fan-base and now have fully established themselves
within the hip-hop scene in the UK. They (along with former fourth member Juicy)
have been regularly featured on the hip-hop pages of most publications,
performed in just about every London venue hosting hip-hop nights and deservedly
received air-play from just about every hip-hop radio show. Their
debut offering was the demo-album, “Now Till Infinity - The Street Album” in
1999. Its restricted availability was initially just to satisfy demand from
their growing fan-base and the intention was to help establish their name and
profile within their South London locality. The response from this target
audience was unexpectedly overwhelming and its success spread further beyond its
intended sector market, even attracting them unsolicited interest beyond the
home-grown hip-hop community. Demand soon outgrow available supply forcing
Social Misfit Entertainment to take advantage and make it more widely available. Tracks
from the street album have been included on various underground compilations and
cover-mount CDs including most recently Hip-hop Connection. They were the first
ever Peoplesound.com Artist of the Month and have been subject to widespread
interest.
