"Sir Prestige presents... SOCIAL MISFITS : The Society Documented" The
Society Documented is an
album that showcases all the various artists recording for and/or associated
with Social Misfit Entertainment. This collaborative effort was produced during
the period between late-2000 and mid-2001 and was overseen by Sir Prestige.
Spread over two 80minute CDs the double-album features 40 titles (inclusive of a
few interludes) that suitably illustrate the versatile styles, beats and
creative ideas amongst the Social Misfit personnel. The
album is in part a cordial introduction to those who are not fully familiar with
all the members of the Social Misfits, namely Shiesty da Gypsy, Stone Circle,
PiQue, Overseas Edition, MelloTrauma, Da-Esence and Sir Prestige. Its also plays
a significant role in the collectives strategy in establishing and maintaining
themselves amongst the premier-league of hip-hop, firstly in the UK then
universally. As
suggested by the title its concept is inspired around a current affairs
broadcast with personnel from the Social Misfit stable offering coverage on
various subject matters in their surrounding environments and/or their life
experiences. Additional reportage and foreign affairs correspondence is also
provided by various additional contributors including Paradise (of 57th
Dynasty fame), the astounding Reveal, the breath-defying Vega & Theory, the
award-winning female emcee Estelle, Malawi’s top rap crew Real Elements,
Tanzania’s finest Saigon, members
of Kenya’s cream of hip-hop including Kalamashaka, Necessary Noise, Gidi-Gidi
Maji-Maji, K South Flava, K-Rupt, DJ Pinye, etc. The Society Documented has already been subject to critical acclaim amongst the UK music media. It has received some very positive and encouraging reviews in all the usual press and specialist radio show’s have given various tracks off it regular airplay rotation and the group have also promoted during live broadcasts via radio stations including London’s Kiss FM and Fusion FM. The Social Misfits have been interviewed on various radio shows and magazines including Blues & Soul, Hip-Hop Connection, Rago, etc. The album has also attracted them similar attention overseas especially in Nairobi, Kenya where they have been heavily featured in the leading national newspaper, Daily Nation and Africa’s most prominent entertainment magazine, Phat!. Reviews for this incredible album have included the following commentary; "...by far thee most essential compilation this month. Two CDs of pure gritty, glammed-up, locked-on genius from one of UK's most talent packed new label. Get, watch blow up, and smugly say you were there at the beginning. Its on! - 4 out of 5."
